When a hazard is detected, the voice alarm announces "Fire!" for smoke or fire, or "Warning! Carbon Monoxide!" for CO. If the unit reaches the end of its life span, it will announce "Replace Alarm."

This Kidde smoke alarm is UL Listed and comes with a 10-year limited manufacturer warranty on the alarm itself (not the battery performance). The warranty begins when the alarm is powered on. If the power-on date is unknown, it is recommended to replace the alarm.
